San Leo Wheelchair Accessible Tours

San Leo wheelchair accessible tours, is a wonderful village in the hinterland of Rimini, located in the heart of Montefeltro in Alta Valmarecchia.

With the famous fortress that stands on a rocky spur, the characteristic historic centre, the parish church and the Cathedral of San Leone, the village of San Leo is an unmissable destination when you decide to spend a holiday in Emilia-Romagna.

Although decidedly small, San Leo contains years of history and a truly great heritage to discover.

Seen from above, San Leo looks like a suspended village, perched on an imposing boulder with its fortress at the top.

It reaches out to the sky, and it will always have to do with it, on cold nights or clear dawns, San Leo really seems suspended, like in the clouds.

Touring San Leo

The fortress of San Leo, distanced from the town for defensive reasons, is a fortress that seems to be in magical balance on a spur of rock.

It dominates the whole village from above and has very ancient origins.

In fact, there are historical evidence already from the VI century. and was rebuilt by Federico da Montefeltro in 1441 with the intention of making it impregnable.

Its fame is undoubtedly linked to the name of Cagliostro who died here in 1795, after having been imprisoned there since 1791.

An adventurer, alchemist, healer and forger, he was sentenced to life imprisonment as a heretic and segregated in the cell of the “Pozzetto“, the whose only access was a trapdoor placed in the ceiling.

Today, the Rocca di San Leo is a jewel of Renaissance lines and remains one of the most precious examples of Italian military art.

Inside the rooms of the fortress it is possible to see a permanent exhibition of weapons and objects typical of medieval life, but also the cells of many anti-papal patriots.
