St Sabina Basilica wheelchair accessible tours rises, is a place very linked to the origins of Rome.
According to the legend in 753, while Romulus chose the Palatine hill, Remo preferred the Aventine as the site for the foundation of the city.
The high ground, isolated and defended by walls, soon became a commercial area.
The district was populated with sumptuous houses, temples and oratories dedicated to the sacred pilgrim or to the cults professed by the different peoples here merged.

The church was built by the presbyter Pietro d'Illiria in an era between 422 and 432.

It was built on the site previously occupied by the Titulus Sabinae, using the 24 white marble columns of the Temple of Juno Queen that stood nearby.
A noteworthy monument of early Christian art is the wooden door that constitutes the main entrance to the Basilica.
It is framed within a beautiful marble frame.
Perhaps "spolium" of ancient models or perhaps imitation of them, which reproduces decorations with palmettes and small flowers.
The door was designed and built around 432 AD.
Just for this site and it is the only early Christian wooden sculpture he has come to us today which clearly explains its exceptional importance.
