Touring Pitigliano
The entrance to the historic center is very particular.
The first thing you notice are the two huge arches of the aqueduct built by the Orsini family and completed by the Medici around 1600.
The water flowing inside the aqueduct feeds the Fountain of the Seven Spouts, located in the center of Piazza della Repubblica.
Of Aldobrandesque origin, which later became the residence of the Orsini counts, Palazzo Orsini is one of the most beautiful attractions to visit in Pitigliano.
The building dates back to the XII century and is characterized by twenty-one elegant rooms and a very interesting museum.
The main Catholic church of Pitigliano is certainly the Cathedral of St Peter and Paul.
Probably built in the XIII century and gradually modified and rearranged over the centuries.
Not to be missed The vie Cave di Pitigliano is a path dug into the tuff by the ancient Etruscan to connect the three neighboring villages: Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana.
