Cannae wheelchair accessible tours, or as it called today Canne della Battaglia is located a few kilometers away from Barletta, on the right bank of the Ofanto river.
It is a remarkable archaeological center where the ancient city of Cannae stood.
In Cannae, the famous battle took place in 216 BC, one of the main ones of the Second Punic War.
The Carthaginian army, commanded by Hannibal, although in a numerical minority, put in place a pincer tactical maneuver.
That made it possible to inflict one of the heaviest defeats on the Roman army, especially in terms of casualties, in all of its history.
The Battle of Cannae is considered one of the most important, if not the most important battle of antiquity.
This momentous event is being studied all over the world.
Military tactics, soldier equipment, the battlefield itself are all factors that influence the outcome of a battle or an entire war.
That 2 August 216 BC history was written, not on white paper, but on the bare earth and stones that still recall the pressure of sandals and bear the marks of swords and spears.
Perhaps someone wonders why this place was the scene of a tragedy and at the same time the scene of glory for many.

The Antiquarium, is located at the foot of the fortified citadel, and the Archaeological Park.
Has the remains of the ancient Daunian settlement and structures from the Roman, early Christian and Medieval periods.

It houses the museum exhibition, which takes place on a single floor, in addition to the spaces for offices.

With the new layout, inaugurated on 2 August 2017, the Antiquarium documents the long continuity of life of Cannae from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.
The exhibition itinerary follows a chronological and thematic order, illustrating the historical evolution of the site.
In addiction, interaction with the geographical environment of the Ofanto area with finds and citations from the numerous sources.
The didactic equipment, the graphics and the multimedia supports make the visit very engaging.
Particular importance is given to the story of the historic battle.
The story of the battle, carefully documented, is proposed in the multimedia room with a reconstructive video also visible in 3D.
